When you think of the word “Teamwork”,
most people tend to have an image of the team members or people in the organization working together dedicatedly, supporting each other, having a close relationship, and heading towards the goals together. However, we may sometimes face situations in which, despite the team’s dedication towards working together according to the definition of Teamwork mentioned earlier, our team still cannot achieve desired goals. Eventually, particular questions stuck into their minds, “Why didn’t it work?” or, does “Teamwork” mean much more than just supporting each other?
On Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, Asian Identity Co., Ltd. organized a workshop for the recruitment agency “Personnel Consultant (Thailand)” on the topic of “Team Retreat”. The workshop aimed to allow team members to step back (Retreat) from their busy work schedules, better understand the current team dynamics, and reflect on how to improve teamwork effectiveness to achieve their goals.
In this workshop, Asian Identity facilitated a learning process where participants can reflect on their perspectives and experiences. They would then apply these reflections in practical activities, allowing them to review the team’s work process over a certain period.
The learning process began with encouraging participants to exchange and understand each other’s perspectives on the current team situation and work processes. This led to a deeper reflection on their working processes through scenario-based activities. These activities have helped participants realize the importance of effective teamwork including leadership, communication, interaction, ownership, and participation towards the team’s goals.
When participants became more aware of the current team situation and acknowledged the factors needing attention, we then applied this awareness in the ‘Ground Rule’ activity. This activity was designed to help set concrete work guidelines under the themes, ‘How can we work together to achieve our goals?’ and ‘What should we pay attention to and value when working’?
In a VUCA world where work environments and business situations fluctuate rapidly, setting the ground rules just once may not be effective or sustainable enough for handling ongoing changes. Therefore, Asian Identity organized activities to provide participants the opportunity to review, reflect on, and share their experiences after applying “ground rules” in real situations. The goal was to create a sustainable approach that the team can agree on, and to make adjustments to these ground rules in the future based on current business conditions, work requirements, or team dynamics.
Through the learning process that took place, participants realized that teamwork is more than just supporting each other in unity. It involves understanding the working styles of each individual and establishing guidelines for effective team collaboration.
In addition, Asian Identity team has received an exciting news from Personnel Consultant (Thailand) later on that their members had implemented this approach and were able to achieve the team goals based on the company’s KPIs by maximizing each member’s potential.
