The bigger a company becomes, the stronger their system needs to be.
Kokotel is an ambitious start-up company in hospitality industry, which invents creative hotel concepts and manage them with high quality and efficiency.
In 2017, Kokotel started operating its’ business in Bangkok with their first hotel in Silom, and have expanded to other locations, like Chiang- mai and Phuket in 2018. This rapid growth was supported by many new talents who came from variety of hotels. Facing that everyone has different work approaches and way of thinking, Kokotel decided to create a common language immediately by starting with directors and HODs (heads of department).
In order to provide an adequate learning environment, Thai and Japanese mixed directors were guided by our CEO, Mr. Katsuhiro Nakamura, in English, and Thai HODs were guided by our general manager, Mr. Ekajit Chamsai, in Thai. In each group, we conducted a 2 days workshop with 2 themes; people management and task management/problem solving skill.
Day 1’s focus was people management. Participants learned about manager’s communication and diversity management through activities and discussions. We also involved our assessment tool, ID MAP, because understanding about others and thinking collaboration cannot done without understanding about oneself.
Day 2’s focus was task management/problem solving skill. Participants learned and practiced several problem solving methods. Considering that the participants have responsibilities of managing subordinates and the number of subordinates increase more in near future, we emphasized task management with the idea “complete your task with support of others”, and how to lead and develop subordinates.
The uniqueness of our workshop is “reflection”. We make sure that the learnings are not left on the table after workshop. At this time, we asked participants to analyze organization’s issues and create plans to overcome them. It may not an easy and fun job, but facing organization’s issues straightforward is a growing pain. Once they analyze what lies behind issues and tackle them correctly, they can step up to higher stage.
We were very delighted to see not only the directors but also HODs showed ownership for the company and strong trust among each other. Sometimes, strong organization creates strong leadership. But in this case, we are certain that these strong leaders from Kokotel will create strong organization as they desire.
