Effective Communication Skills Workshop –SNM Service (Thailand) Limited
Communication Skills is one of the most crucial elements for driving organizational long-term success impacting everything from team collaboration to client relations.
Our client, SNM Service (Thailand), started its business operations in 2012, focusing on sales support, maintenance, and repair of turbines and pumps. As one of the group companies of Shin Nippon Machinery Co., Ltd., SNM Service (Thailand) has been serving the Thailand market effectively since its inception. The team, comprising both Thai and Japanese individuals, works together to deliver the best service to their clients while maintaining the value of mutual understanding through effective communication internally and externally.
Recently, SNM Service (Thailand) introduced a new Supervisor position to strengthen leadership and improve team coordination. To support this transition and further enhance their internal and external communication, two separate sessions of the Effective Communication Skills Workshop were organized. These workshops aimed to equip SNM Service’s members with essential skills: Communicating from their Audience’s Perspective and Influencing Others using Empathetic and Logical approaches.
The sessions were facilitated using a variety of interactive activities designed to engage participants in experiential learning. Here are the examples of those activities:
- (Day 1) Building Game: Each group must build something together from scratch, with obstacles that prevent them from observing the building process of other groups. The activity was designed to highlight the importance of clear and timely communication within a team (Ho-Ren-So).
- (Day 2) 1-Min Effective Story Flows: Each group was tasked with structuring a short announcement message using different types of story flow (e.g. summarizing key points, providing reasons with examples, or addressing problems and proposing solutions). This activity aimed to help participants understand how the structure and delivery of information can impact clarity and audience engagement.
These activities encouraged them to apply the concepts in real-time scenarios, allowing them to reflect on their own work experiences and gain practical insights. At the conclusion of both sessions, participants completed a Reflection & Commitment Sheet, where they reflected on what they had learned and made personal commitments on how they would improve their communication skills within the company.
In conclusion, the workshop not only equipped participants with essential communication skills but also inspired ongoing commitment to improvement. We received feedback from participants, who shared that they have encouraged their team members to commit to the promises they made by printing out their commitment sheets and displaying them on a Commitment Board as a daily reminder. Additionally, they have initiated more internal meetings to ensure smoother communication within the team.
While these initiatives are still in their early stages and may take time to become ingrained in the company culture, the proactive steps taken by the team reflect a strong dedication to enhancing communication practices. With consistent effort, these changes are expected to eventually bear fruit, leading to a more collaborative and effective work environment.
